SKATEBOARDING
Over the past year, we have been actively exposing our young skaters to a wide range of events, competitions, and community activations. These opportunities not only provide them with crucial exposure but also help them learn more about skateboarding culture, competition structure, and personal development. Each day, we focus on a different aspect of skateboarding — from technical training and physical fitness to mental health and competitive readiness.
Our program is designed to support well-rounded growth both on and off the board.

Skater Spotlight:
OMPHILE MASHILE
Omphile is an 11-year-old skater from Soweto, raised in a household
with very limited financial resources.
He picked up a skateboard for the first time in December 2023, and within just four months, he won 1st place in the U14 division at the South African Championships — officially becoming one of the country's current national champions. Even more impressive, he did this while training in borrowed gear and skating in mismatched shoes.
Omphile’s talent and drive have set him apart from the start. On just his third session, he landed a five-stair ollie at Nike’s Shape Skatepark in Soweto. Now, at only 11 years old, he’s already mastering advanced tricks like tre flips, front lips, smith grinds, and throwing down on stair sets that challenge even the most seasoned skaters.
He recently made history at 011 Skatepark, becoming the first U16 skater to land the infamous big four-set — one of the most difficult stair sets in Johannesburg.

HIS JOURNEY IS NOTHING SHORT OF REMARKABLE.
KICKBOXING
Shapa Warriors continues to grow as a powerful force in the South African kickboxing scene, with a strong focus on athlete development through the SAKA (South African Kickboxing Association) platform, kickboxers.co.za.

In February, our team of 12 dedicated athletes competed in the Central Gauteng District Trials, where all qualified for the Gauteng Championships. Each team member earned their provincial colours — a proud milestone in our ongoing journey. They are actively preparing for the 2025 development tournaments and looking ahead to rejoining the 2026 league with even greater strength, aiming for more championship titles and South African national colours.

In 2024, a dedicated group athletes participated in their first full-contact grading, an essential step in our "Journey to Black Belt" program. This multi-year pathway not only leads to black belt certification but also prepares athletes for future coaching roles. The next grading is scheduled for mid-2025 (June/July – date to be confirmed), marking another critical step in their 2–3 year development cycle.
Shapa Warriors remains committed to high-performance development, community engagement, and excellence in kickboxing.
DANCE

SCI: SPORTSTEC
Good Moves Active Afterschool is a program that takes place in Shapa Soweto on a weekly basis (Mon - Fri) from 3pm - 5pm. It Caters to all learners around the center. It initially started when the schools surrounding Shapa wanted their learners to be more active in other sporting codes after school.
This is where SportsTec decided to serve the needs of the school kids through introducing them to new skills that would benefit not only their physical health but also their psychological health to maintain mental fortitude.
What we do is keep the learners engaged in different activities for different skills on termly basis. Each term is dedicated to a particular skillset that focuses on specific sports as per the Gauteng Department of Education's sports calendar.
Our program is inclusive and focuses on developing the child holistically. We focus on a group of 340 kids between the ages of 9 - 14 years, We have a component in our program called Sport2Life which focuses on the psychology of the learners, we have conversations with them about their lessons in sports and how they can use the lessons to overcome life’s challenges.
